New I3D User Interface

New I3D user interface aims to provide an improved user experience. The biggest change is a more intuitive UI that is adjusted and ready for gyroscope-based control. By moving his head worker can navigate through menu and select wanted options. Navigation menu and new icons are easier to understand and ready for multilingual usage.

The Forgotten Men in Industrial Plants

Nowadays each company manager can have a computer access with sophisticated research and advisory services on their desktops – only the most important ones producing values in physical space are neglected: the workers who are responsible to operate/interact with growing complexity of manufacturing facilities. Some of them have in best cases handies to scan barcodes or enter data.

But what about the workers obliged to carry out mission-critical operations ? For example to open or shut-down a Central Gas Valve of a Power Plant. This process consists of very precise workflow consisting of 16 steps. The worker has to memorize the workflow or have a booklet to read in a windy place…. Any error in execution can lead to fatal consequences.

Another scenario: some equipments and facilities of the plant must be regularly checked and check/repair results reported. (Preventive maintenance, compliance checks). How can be the worker supported, if he needs the latest maintenance info of a new machine ? Or needs drawings, schemes, to inspect correctly the equipment or an electricity switch-box ? (with labels not updated)

The first DIY implementation of the I3D by client.

After a short remote training session, and receiving the one-click-360°-camera, the client has created the spherical photos and transformed his own checklist to the I3D. Based on this checklist, a person not familiar with the environment can provide the safety check. Via smart devices it is possible to create evidence about the execution of the safety check and can be used in case of accident or insurance event.

Since the client has no AR smart device available, the workorders are executed on smart mobile phones.

The first pilot implementation of the I3D. The goal of this pilot project was to closely cooperate with potential end users, carefully listen their needs and requirements to provide a toolset, which will meet their actual and future needs.

During this pilot implementation, the yearly check of the safety shut-off mechanism has been transformed to I3D.

The workflow contains 9 steps and 33 actions.

A pilot implementation of the I3D, in which we have veryfied the I3D toolset in close cooperation with the crane operators in a big steel plant.
The goal of this pilot project was to provide a tool, which will guarantee, that all of the safety check is executed properly and no important step is skiped in everyday operation.

The standard checklist has been transformed to the I3D structure and enriched with spherical photos. This makes available 2 type of usage:

• VR mode for preparation of new crane operators, where and what to check
• AR mode for interactive guidenance and creation of evidence. The crane operator is guided step-by-step and is submitting the good status of the checkpoints. In case of need, a set of good and bad examples are available to support to decide, if the actual status of the crane is in corespondence with the safety requirements.

In this checklist template, 13 steps and 72 actions has been created.
